What happens to your file
The upload is stored privately, processed frame by frame, and the result is written back as an MP4 at the original resolution (capped at 1080p) and frame rate. The audio track is copied through, not re-encoded.
Source files are deleted after processing according to the retention window in our privacy policy. Result files stay available in your dashboard so you can re-download without paying twice.
- Input: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV
- Limits: 100 MB and 10 minutes per job
- Output: MP4, original resolution up to 1080p, original frame rate
When MP4 will not help you
If your MP4 contains a soft subtitle track — some downloads and screen recordings do — you do not need this tool at all. `ffmpeg -i input.mp4` will list the streams; if a subtitle stream appears, strip it with `-sn` and the picture is unchanged.
If the text is a separate overlay in an editing project you still have, remove it there. Reconstruction is for text that only exists as pixels.
Getting the best source quality
Text removal is a reconstruction, so it inherits whatever the encoder left behind. A high-bitrate export gives the model clean edges to work with; a heavily compressed file gives it blocking artefacts around every letter.
If you have the choice, export at the highest bitrate you can and let us downscale to 1080p, rather than pre-compressing the file yourself before upload.
Frequently asked questions
Does the output stay MP4?+
Yes. You get an MP4 back at the original resolution and frame rate, with the audio stream copied through.
Can I remove text from a MOV file from my iPhone?+
Yes, MOV is accepted. iPhone recordings are often HEVC-encoded — those work, but converting to H.264 first can shorten processing time.
Will the file size change?+
Usually slightly. The video is re-encoded around the repaired frames, so the bitrate may differ from the original even though resolution and duration are identical.
Is there a batch option for many MP4s?+
Not in the web app. Batch processing is available through the API on the Studio plan — contact us with your expected volume.
